Ouch. Ya know, it's kind of scary how much more time and energy even many Christian parents put into getting their kids ready for a college-and-career life, than a life spent serving Jesus, regardless of education or employment.
Years ago, I heard someone make the point that what we now refer to as an "occupation," used to be referred to as a "vocation (from the Latin for "voice")," meaning "calling," or "summons." I like that so much! And I've been trying to use that term when speaking with my children about their futures...I love the way it focuses the whole picture on God's will for our lives, right from the get-go.
